Living today with Dementia! But what about tomorrow?

Introduction

The training takes place over a one day or two half days and is loosely based on the Alzheimer’s Society accredited professional training programme entitled “Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow”.

It sets out to provide an understanding of dementia, an appreciation of the issues facing both families, the person being cared for and the carer. It is designed to offer practical suggestions, copping strategies, solutions and preparation for the future.

The Objectives

Its aim is to equip families, professional and private carers with the necessary skills, knowledge, understanding and empathy to enable then to cope themselves and support a person with dementia. It’s intended to be practical, pragmatic and informative in helping provide quality care throughout person’s transition through the various stages of dementia. It sets out to empower the carer and the family to help maintain an individual’s dignity, self-respect and independence.

What will be achieved?

· Understand the characteristics of dementia and how dementia affects a person's behaviour and ability to communicate and look after themselves

· Gain an appreciation of how dementia affects people in different ways

· Appreciate the impact dementia has on the family, carers and others

· Understand the type of behaviour one can expect throughout the various stages of dementia

· How quality care focuses on what a person can still do

· The importance of good communication

· Identify strategies, ideas, suggestions and approaches to improve the lives of both the family, the carer and the person with dementia

· the concept of person-centred care and the value of knowing a person’s Life History

Who should attend?

The training is targeted at those who have the responsibility of advising or looking after the elderly or those with dementia, physical or learning disabilities. For example:

· Families, private carers or spouses

· Care professionals, nurses, social workers employed by domiciliary care agencies, day care centres, care homes, hospitals and other institutions

· Charity staff, their clients, members and outreach workers,

· Members of social communities and networks, such as: Women’s Institute, Verity Club, Community Centres

· Members of religious communities and networks, such as: synagogues, churches and mosques

· Blank summary Life History template

· Certificate of attendance

Training Enquiries and Booking Arrangements

Training can be arranged either on an individual or group basis for up to 30 delegates per training session.

FEES

The fee is £150.00 per half day and £300.00 per whole day (please note this is the fee for the trainer - not per delegate) All training fees are exclusive of accommodation & travel expenses. Please see our terms and conditions.

To make the training as financially accessible and keep costs to a minimum, where possible, with the agreement of the host organisation, all marketing of the training event, duplication of materials, refreshments, equipment and venue hire is at the host organisations own expense.

However, if any of the above services are required we can quote separately.
