Playwork Basics

This is a 21-hour course which is an excellent course for those new to Playwork settings and those with little experience of formal training. It is also suitable for those experienced playworkers who need to gain a nationally recognised certificate.

Course Aim

To equip those new to Playwork, or those people already in Playwork with little formal training, with an increased understanding of their role as a playworker

Course Objectives

By the end of the course participants will have:

  • Developed skills in relation to children appropriately in a Playwork setting
  • Improved their knowledge as to relevant underpinning theory and legislation
  • Examined their own attitudes to working with children in a Playwork setting
  • Identified strategies for developing their reflective practice
  • Increased their own level of confidence in their role as a playworker

Assessment

Assessment is carried out by the course trainer and verified by Common Threads Training Limited. The main course assessment is based on participant responses to practical scenarios – there are no placement visits or assessments in the workplace to be carried out as part of this course.

Certification

Playwork Basics is fully endorsed by SPRITO. Participants who successfully complete the course assessment will be awarded a nationally recognised Certificate of Achievement.
